Published:

21st Amendment – Bar Association raises concerns. The Bar Association of Sri Lanka in a letter to the Minister of Justice, Dr. Wijedasa Rajapakse, has raised concerns about the 21st Amendment which was presented to the Cabinet today (23rd May 2022).

Accordingly, the new amendment allows the President to hold onto his powers, dissolve and prorogue Parliament etc. As such the BASL has provided further recommendations for the Government to consider and requests that the 21st Amendment be enacted early in order to achieve stability in the country.
