Shashi Weerawansa, the wife of former Minister Wimal Weerawansa, was granted bail by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday (31).
After considering the application for bail made by the accused who was sentenced to two years in prison, the Colombo Chief Magistrate decided to grant bail on no international travel condition.
As a result, she was released on a Rs. 50,000/- cash bail and two Rs. 5 million personal bails.
Mrs. Weerawansa, has filed 2 appeals against the 2-year prison sentence and the fine imposed on her for possessing a fake passport.
Because Mrs. Weerawansa had already filed an appeal challenging the sentence, the Colombo Magistrate decided to consider the request for bail made on her behalf on May 30th.
