Gemunu Wijeratne, President of the Association, stated that bus fares will be raised by 25% to 30%.
He stated that the price increase will be implemented in accordance with the fuel price increase announced today.
Wijeratne also stated that new bus fares would be announced today.
The price increase follows the announcement by Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera that Cabinet approval has been obtained for the revision of transportation and other service charges.
Minister Wijesekera stated that the price increases are being implemented in response to the implementation of a fuel pricing formula that was also approved by the Cabinet.
The Energy Minister also stated that the formula will be used every two weeks or monthly.
