A religious police spokesman told BBC, The Taliban has ordered all female TV presenters to cover their faces while on air, all media outlets were told of this decree on Wednesday he further stated

This ruling came after all women were ordered to wear a face veil in public or be punished two weeks ago

The Taliban have tightened restrictions on women in the past few months when they were banned from going out in public unattended by a man, also shutting off secondary schools for girls preventing them from getting a higher education.

An unnamed Afghan journalist working for a local TV station said she was shocked to hear the latest news

“They are putting indirect pressure on us to stop presenting on TV”

“How can I read the news with my mouth covered? I don’t know what to do now – I must work, I am the breadwinner of my family.” She told BBC

The new decree will take effect from 21 May, Reuter’s news agency reported,

The spokesman referred to the ruling as “advice” – it is not clear what will happen to anyone who fails to comply.

“Based on information received by Tolo news, the order has been issued to all media outlets in Afghanistan,” the news channel reported.
