Australia will provide $ 50 million in official development assistance to Sri Lanka in order to help it meet its urgent food and healthcare needs.

Sri Lanka is currently experiencing its worst economic crisis in seventy years, resulting in a lack of medicine, food, and fuel.

According to the Australian High Commission, Australia will immediately contribute $ 22 million to the World Food Programme for emergency food assistance to help three million people in Sri Lanka meet their daily nutrition needs.

In 2022-23, Australia will also provide $ 23 million in development assistance to Sri Lanka. This will help health services and economic recovery, with a focus on protecting vulnerable people, particularly women and girls.

These contributions are in addition to the $ 5 million previously provided to UN agencies in Sri Lanka.
