BASL requests that courts serve as essential services.

The Bar Association of Sri Lanka has asked that the courts, including the Court of Appeal, continue to function as a vital service.

In a letter to the Chief Justice, the President of the Courts of Appeal, and the Judicial Service Commission, the BASL states that the administration of justice is and has always been regarded as an essential service.

In light of the current fuel crisis, the Ministry of Public Administration recently declared a three-day work week in order to encourage public servants to grow at home.

According to BASL, a three-day holiday every week will not result in desirable outcomes for litigants and the administration of justice, and will cause significant disruption to the functioning of courts as well as great inconvenience to the public and members of the legal profession.
