COPE investigates CEB imports of substandard generators.

Yesterday (10) at the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE), it was revealed that the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) had imported 50 substandard generators at a cost of Rs. 3,100 million.

During yesterday’s session, COPE Chairman Prof. Charitha Herath raised concerns about the importation of 50 substandard generators.

Prof. Charitha Herath questioned the current status of the report requested in this regard while pointing out that there are issues in the procurement process pertaining to the importation of the said generators.

In response, Andrew Nawamani, the CEB’s Additional General Manager, stated that appointments have been made to hold further discussions on the matter, while a letter has been sent to the relevant company in question, and the CEB is awaiting a response.
