Dhammika Perera, a Sri Lankan businessman, was sworn in as a Member of Parliament this morning.
During today’s session of Parliament, Dhammika Perera was sworn in in front of the Speaker.
Dhammika Perera was appointed as a Member of Parliament from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National List on June 10th, according to a Gazette notification.
As a member of parliament chosen in accordance with Article 99A of the Constitution, Perera fills the vacancy left by Basil Rajapaksa’s resignation (the National List).
Several petitions contesting Dhammika Perera’s designation as an MP were submitted to the Supreme Court after the Gazette’s publication.
The five Fundamental Rights (FR) applications that had been brought against Perera, however, were rejected by the Supreme Court yesterday in a majority ruling.
Dhammika Perera will be sworn in as a Member of Parliament today, it was then stated.
His appointment as a Cabinet Minister, where he would oversee the promotion of investments in technology, has also been predicted.
