The Election Commission has decided to list businessman Dhammika Perera as a Member of Parliament from Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP).

Dhammika Perera’s name was sent to the Election Commission earlier today, according to SLPP General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam, to fill the vacant National List parliamentary seat.

Meanwhile, Dhammika Perera obtained Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna membership from the party’s general secretary after officially submitting his consent to accept parliamentary membership from the SLPP.

It was also reported that Mr. Perera has decided to accept the SLPP National List parliamentary seat left vacant by former Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa’s resignation.

As a result, he has resigned from all of his company’s boards of directors in preparation for taking oaths as a Member of Parliament.

Sources told Ada Derana earlier this week that Dhammika Perera is expected to take up a ministerial portfolio in the investment sector after entering parliament through the SLPP.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa issued a special gazette notification last night, creating two new portfolios titled Minister of Technology and Investment Promotion and Minister of Women, Child Affairs, and Social Empowerment.

The Ministry of Technology and Investment Promotion includes 15 departments, statutory institutions, and public corporations, including the Department of Immigration and Emigration, the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL), the Department of Registration of Persons, and the Board of Investment
