Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment Manusha Nanayakkara has stated that a proposal will be submitted to Cabinet to grant vehicle permits for Sri Lankan migrant workers who carry out payments through permitted channels.
Though the import of vehicles has been currently suspended by the Government, permits however will be granted only for those migrant workers who use the authorized banking channels to remit funds to Sri Lanka.
The Minister also mentioned that they hope to introduce a low-interest housing loan scheme for these workers.
Sri Lanka received a total of US$ 305 million in remittances last month.
