The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has stated that Sri Lanka is currently facing a total humanitarian emergency.
In its latest update it is reported that nearly 200 essential medicines are out of stock and around another 163 may not be available during the course of the next 2 – 3 months.
Hospitals have had to postpone certain surgeries due to power cuts and they too are running out of essential surgical and laboratory items.
At the request of the Government, the UN has launched a USD 47.2 plan from June to September.
