UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has claimed that Vladimir Putin would not have invaded Ukraine if he were a woman, calling the Russian war on Ukraine a “perfect example of toxic masculinity.”
The invasion was described as “crazy, macho” by the UK prime minister, who called for “more women in positions of power.”
Johnson made the remarks during an interview with German media after the G7 summit in Schloss Elmau.
“If Putin were a woman, which he obviously isn’t, I really don’t think he would have embarked on such a crazy, macho war of invasion and violence,” Johnson told ZDF.
“If you want a perfect example of toxic masculinity, it’s what he is doing in Ukraine.”
Johnson also stated that G7 leaders are “desperately” seeking an end to the conflict in Ukraine and that there is currently “no deal available.”
He also called the summit “incredible,” saying leaders “got closer and closer” to reaching an agreement.
Johnson claimed that the West must militarily support Ukraine in order to put President Volodymyr Zelensky “in the best possible position” in negotiations with Russia “whenever talks come.”
Meanwhile, Russia’s attack on Ukraine, which has been ongoing for more than four months, appears to have no end in sight.
On Monday, missiles struck a shopping mall in Kremenchuk’s central city, killing over 1,000 people.
Incensed Zelensky accused Putin of becoming a “terrorist” and leading a “terrorist state”. He further urged Russia’s expulsion from the United Nations.
During a virtual address to the UN Security Council, Zelensky urged the organization to establish an international tribunal to investigate “Russian occupiers’ actions on Ukrainian soil” and hold Russia accountable. “We need to act quickly to put an end to Russia’s killing spree,” he said.
