The resumption of international operations at the International Airport of Jaffna with effect from July 1, 2022, has received cabinet permission.
After the Indian-aided renovation project was completed, the Palaly airport was reopened as the Jaffna International Airport on November 11, 2019.
Although international operations at Jaffna’s International Airport were launched in November 2019, they have been suspended since March 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the Government, requests have been made for the operation of scheduled flights from the Jaffna Airport to South Indian destinations as well as hired air tours, by both foreign and domestic aviation businesses.
As a result, the measures taken by the Minister of Ports, Naval, and Aviation Services to resume the international operating activities of the Jaffna International Airport were approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
