Jaffna International Airport to resume operations

Published:

With effect from July 1, 2022, Cabinet has approved the resumption of international operations at the Jaffna International Airport.

Although international operations at Jaffna’s International Airport were introduced on November 11th, 2019, the operational activities were suspended commencing March 15th, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic conditions which prevailed at that time.

According to a statement from the Department of Government Information, both globally and locally based aviation companies have made proposals for the operation of rented air tours as well as time-framed aviation flights from the said Airport to South Indian destinations.

Taking this into consideration, the Cabinet of Ministers decided to endorse the steps taken by the Minister of Ports, Naval, and Aviation Services in order for Jaffna International Airport to resume its international operational activities as of July 1st, 2022.
