Jaffna to resume international flights

The Jaffna International Airport is set to resume international flights commencing 1 st July 2022.
Jaffna International Airport, formerly the Palaly Airport, was re-opened in 2019 with the support of India. India’s Alliance Air conducted three weekly flights from Chennai to Palaly which ceased by the end of that year.
Ports, Shipping and Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva has stated that the airport needs to be modernized and upgraded in order to attract Airlines flying to other destinations. He further stated that the present runway can only accommodate 75-seater flights. Advise has been given on expanding the runway with the help and support of India.
