Sri Lanka has been in turmoil. The Island nation, as per many experts, is going through the worst economic crisis in seven decades. Thus, the essential supply such as food, fuel, and electricity have been in limited numbers.
Despite this, Sri Lankan cricketers are doing their part to assist the country during these trying times. In this regard, Maheesh Theekshana of Sri Lanka and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) won hearts with a noble gesture for his homeland. The 21-year-old wily spinner donated essential medical supplies to a Colombo hospital with the help of the MS Dhoni-led Yellow Army.
“I am blessed and humbled to contribute towards this desperate hour of their need,” Theekshana told News9 while dwelling on his heartfelt gesture.
Theekshana helped the uninitiated by donating tissue vaults, cells, and freezing bags to the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children in Colombo’s Human Heart Valve and Tissue Bank. According to News18, he donated a portion of his IPL 2022 earnings to his crisis-hit island nation.
CSK signed Theekshana for INR 70 lakhs (roughly INR 7 million) ahead of the IPL 15 season. He had a successful debut season with the popular franchise, taking 12 scalps in nine games. CSK, on the other hand, finished ninth in the IPL 2022 season, failing to win their fifth title. Theekshana also played in Sri Lanka’s recent 3-2 ODI series win over Australia in their own backyard, where he impressed everyone.
