A group is protesting in the Malliveppu area, blocking the main Hatton-Colombo road, demanding that kerosene be supplied.
Around 2,000 people are said to have blocked the road while waiting in line to buy kerosene.
As a result, the police have asked the public to take alternate routes.
In addition, the Armor Street road in Colombo has been closed due to a fuel protest.
