On Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Colombo, Secretary of Foreign Affairs Aruni Wijewardane met with a senior delegation from the US Departments of Treasury and State, led by Deputy Assistant Secretary of Treasury for Asia Robert Kaproth and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South & Central Asia Ambassador Kelly Keiderling.
The robust and extensive bilateral relationship between the two nations which benefits both parties and amongst other things, improves the well-being of the Sri Lankan people, was hailed by Foreign Secretary Wijewardane. The Sri Lankan side also touched on potential U.S. areas of assistance in tackling the numerous difficulties Sri Lanka is presently experiencing as a result of its current economic crisis.
The opportunity to speak with senior representatives of the Sri Lankan Government and address pertinent topics as well as facets of the long-term relationship between the United States and Sri Lanka was appreciated by the visiting team.
