The preliminary draft of the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution and the 22nd Constitutional Amendment Bill ha received policy approval from the Cabinet.
The Legal Draftsman has prepared both these said documents.
According to the Attorney General, the Bill complies with the Constitution.
As a result, the Cabinet has given the go-ahead for the Justice and Constitutional Reforms Minister’s proposal to publish the 22nd Constitutional Amendment Bill in the Government Gazette prior to submitting it to Parliament for approval.
According to Justice Minister Wijedasa Rajapakshe, the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution will be brought to Parliament in the coming days.
The Minister stated that he had introduced the 22nd Amendment as a Private Members’ Bill while the Samagi Jana Balawegaya had submitted the 21st Amendment.
According to Minister Rajapakshe, the recently proposed 22nd Amendment would be published in a gazette before being brought before Parliament.
