Only today, on Tuesday, will the Parliament meet this week. The Speaker of Parliament, Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, presided over the Committee on Parliamentary Business, where the decision was made, according to Dhammika Dasanayake, the Secretary General of Parliament.
Despite the prior choice made by the Committee on Parliamentary Business to hold the Parliament from January 21 to January 24, this decision was made as a result of the present fuel crisis.
Meanwhile, the Independent Members of the Parliament made the decision to move the adjournment motion regarding the country’s current health issues that was scheduled to be moved by the Opposition for the purpose of taking up for debate today in light of the opposition’s declaration that it will boycott this week’s sessions (22).
Parliament is expected to reconvene on Monday, July 4th, following its hiatus.
The Secretary-General also announced that 50 Questions for Oral Answers that could not be taken up in Parliament for a variety of reasons had been scheduled from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm.
