Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s special statement

Published:

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said in a special statement that the current three-week period is the most difficult for the energy shortage.

He stated that it is clear from the current gas and fuel lines that were seen across the country.
He also stated that the most recent LP gas shipment, which contained 3500 MT of LP gas, was prioritized for large users such as hospitals, hotels, and crematoriums.

“It will take about two weeks to receive enough LP gas stocks to last four months.”
“Discussions are underway to try to get the shipments sooner,” he said.

“The current fuel stocks, which are provided on a priority basis for power generation and essential services, are sufficient for one week.”

However, with a fuel shipment of 40,000 MT expected to arrive on June 16th and another two shipments confirmed, enough fuel can be ensured until the end of the month,” he added.

The Prime Minister also stated that once the new Indian credit line is received, the country will have enough fuel for the next four months.
