Protests and road closures in response to fuel shortages

Published:

Long lines for gasoline in many parts of the country prompted protests in front of gas stations on Friday (17).

There were many filling stations throughout the country, both with and without fuel, but people were still waiting in long lines to purchase fuel.

People in line protested the decision to create a separate queue for emergency vehicles at a Nugegoda filling station.

“They intend to sell fuel to police officers’ vehicles.” They are selling fuel for 7000 rupees per liter. This is being done by officers who should be maintaining law and order. If fuel is only to be sold to police officers, then the filling station should be reserved for them. “Make a fair system for selling fuel,” lamented one person in line.
