Ratta, Lahiru, and Jinarathana Thero were taken back into detention

Four people who had been detained in connection with the rioting in Colombo on May 9, 2022, were given bail by the Fort Magistrate’s Court on Friday, April 24.

On a personal bail of Rs. 500,000 apiece, the four suspects were freed.

They are Jehan Appuhamy, Eranga Gunasekera, Dhammika Munasinghe, and Jagath Manuwarna.

Remand detention was granted to Lahiru Weerasekera, Rathindu Senaratne alias Ratta, and Venerable Rathkarawwe Jinarathana Thero.

On Wednesday, February 22, the Fort Magistrate’s Court issued an order remanding seven defendants who had turned themselves in after engaging in disorderly behavior until July 1, 2022.

On that date, Sri Lanka Police reported that seven suspects were wanted for an unlawful assembly in front of the police headquarters in Colombo on June 9, 2022, as well as for causing damage to public property and impeding the performance of police officers’ duties, had turned themselves into the Maradana Police through counsel.

Lahiru Weerasekera, Rathindu Senaratne alias Ratta, Jagath Manuwarna, Dhammika Munasinghe, Venerable Rathkarawwe Jinarathana Thero, Eranga Gunasekera, and Jehan Appuhamy were reportedly among those who surrendered and were held until July 1st, according to the police.

Wasantha Mudalige and Venerable Galwewa Siridhamma Thero, however, hadn’t turned themselves into the police.
