Registration of vehicles at fuel stations. Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekara addressing a media briefing stated that a system will be implemented in the near future for domestic fuel consumers to register with one Fuel station to manage the distribution of fuel smoothly.
He further stated that there are sufficient stocks of fuel and no problems in its distribution but that the current shortage is mainly due to excess fuel stocks being held in various places in the country.
The Minister clarified that certain businesses which are registered with the CPC as ‘Consumer Accounts’ are receiving fuel requirements for a period of one month at a time and added that it is an error to do so especially when the CPC is currently importing fuel only for 5 – 6 days at a time. He mentioned that around 2000 such accounts have been registered and a decision has been taken to restrict the supply of fuel to them.
