SJB interacts with visiting US and IMF officials

Published:

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) members and visiting US Treasury and State Department representatives, together with US Ambassador to Colombo Julie Chung, have had a dialogue.

Sajith Premadasa, the leader of the opposition and the SJB, as well as party colleagues Kabir Hashim and Eran Wickremeratne, took part in the conversation, according to SJB MP Dr. Harsha de Silva.

He tweeted, “Appreciate all the USAID (United States Agency for International Development) humanitarian support.”

Additionally, MP Harsha de Silva stated that the group had a conversation with the IMF mission that was in Sri Lanka at the time.

The upcoming months will be “extremely harsh,” MP de Silva said, stating that Sri Lanka’s problem is incredibly complex.

The IMF is unable to lend to Sri Lanka until the nation’s creditors guarantee that they have reached an agreement with the island nation on debt restructuring, and they add that the situation is now exacerbated by the case involving one of the creditors.

He noted that a fiscal consolidation agreement by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s administration will serve as the foundation for a haircut solution.

According to MP Harsha de Silva, his party understands that in order to save Sri Lanka, much-delayed critical reforms must be implemented.

We must unbind ourselves, engage the world, and open up. Destroying the @GotabayaR @RW UNP plan would be undesirable, but there must be a strategy. Already running late,” he continued.
