A plan to raise train fares and other railroad fees has received approval from the Cabinet of Ministers.
According to the Government, the recent increase in fuel prices has made the Sri Lanka Railway Department’s ongoing losses much worse, making it impossible to deliver good service.
As a result, it has been determined that train prices and other railway charges need to be revised at this time.
A proposal has been formulated to raise train fares which haven’t been revised in the last five years and other railroad costs which haven’t been amended in the last fourteen years.
