Update on passports

Published:

One Day Passport processing will commence in 3 more districts from Monday 4th July, according to Minister of Investment Promotion Dhammika Perera.

According to him, the Department of Immigration and Emigration branch offices in Matara, Kandy, and Vavuniya will start the one-day service.

Minister Dhammika Perera previously declared his intention to open five more branch offices in Sri Lanka while serving as the Minister in charge of the Department of Immigration and Emigration.

The Minister stated in an interview with a local media organization that the Kurunegala office does not currently have the necessary printing machine, while the branch offices in Kandy and Matara do not provide the one-day passport service.

He claimed that because of these factors, residents of these areas must travel to Colombo and wait there for several days before using the office’s one-day service program to get their passports.

Minister Dhammika Perera announced that he will open the first office in Jaffna with his own money after claiming that the President had emphasized the necessity to open five additional branch offices of the Immigration and Emigration Department.
