A Subway restaurant employee in Atlanta, Georgia, was shot and killed after an argument over “too much mayo in a sandwich.” The shooting also injured another employee. According to Atlanta Police, a customer apparently became enraged over a condiment on his sandwich.
According to a police department news release, officers were dispatched to the restaurant near Mercedes-Benz Stadium in downtown Atlanta shortly after 6:30 p.m. (local time).
Two employees were found shot at the crime scene and taken to the hospital. According to the authorities, one woman died at the hospital. During the incident, the suspect allegedly used a handgun.
During a news conference on Monday, Deputy Chief Charles Hampton Jr. said, “This was a very tragic situation that did not have to occur.”
“The suspect came inside the restaurant (to) order a sandwich, and there was something wrong with the sandwich that made him so angry that he decided to take his anger out on two of the employees here,” Hampton Jr. explained.
Hampton also stated that a 36-year-old man was arrested on Sunday night. However, citing the ongoing investigation, he declined to identify the suspect.
Brittany Macon has been identified as the victim. She was 26 years old at the time.
According to CNN, Bertram Ennett, an investigator with the Fulton County medical examiner, stated that an autopsy has not been completed but that gunshot wounds are the preliminary cause of death.
