Violence on May 9th, with the Defence Secretary at PCOI

Defense Secretary Kamal Gunaratne attended the Presidential Commission of Inquiry to determine if there were any mistakes made by the armed forces and State Intelligence Services during the most recent incidents of violence in Mirihana on March 31 and island-wide violence since May 9.

The Defense Secretary provided statements, according to a senior member of the Presidential Commission.

On Monday (27), the Commission additionally obtained statements from former ministers Channa Jayasumana and Dr. Ramesh Pathirana.

General Shavendra Silva, a former commander of the Army, also testified before the Commission.

To the Commission, close to 30 military officers have been called.

Former Navy Commander, Admiral of the Fleet Wasantha Karannagoda, Former Air Force Commander Marshal of the Air Force Roshan Goonetileke and Former Army Commander Daya Ratnayake are the members of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry that was appointed by the President recently.
