Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe informed the Parliament today that a 3-member delegation from India, led by Chief Economic Advisor V. Anantha Nageswaran will be arriving in the island tomorrow, 23rd June 2022, on a special aircraft, to evaluate the current situation of the island and to discuss further aid.
The delegation is expected to stay in the island only for a period of 3 hours during which they will hold discussions with both the President and the Prime Minister.
India is currently in the process of confirming another credit line of US $ 500 million to purchase oil. The Prime Minister also stated that India will not be in a position to keep giving loans since they too have their limitations and that Sri Lanka should also be in a position to pay back the loans that have been taken.
He mentioned that the safest option to overcome this crisis would be to engage with the International Monetary Fund.
