Wanted Johnston files a petition to avoid arrest.

Published:

Former Minister Johnston Fernando has petitioned the Court of Appeal for an order preventing his arrest.

MP Fernando and several Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) supporters were named as suspects in the May 09 unrest case last week.

The Attorney General had informed the Fort Magistrate’s Court that they would be named as suspects in the case filed over the attacks on anti-government protesters near the Temple Trees and at Colombo’s Galle Face Green.

The court has already imposed a travel ban on MP Johnston Fernando and 16 others in connection with the incident.

Several SLPP MPs and loyalists have already been arrested and remanded by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for their involvement in the attacks.
