Wasantha Handapangoda, President of the Sri Lanka Podujana Education Services Union, has been arrested in connection with the May 09 unrest in Sri Lanka.
The President of a Union affiliated with the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has been arrested for her role in SLPP loyalists’ attacks on anti-government protesters near the Temple Trees and at the Galle Face Green in Colombo.
Wasantha Handapangoda is one of six suspects detained in connection with the unrest, which also includes the mayor’s son, three Moratuwa Municipal Council employees, and a Colombo Municipal Councilor.
The suspects will be brought to court after giving statements about the unrest, according to the police.
