The National Hospital of Sri Lanka (NHSL) reported yesterday (10) that 55 of the 105 injured people who were brought to the NHSL last Saturday were still being treated (9).

“On Saturday, one hundred and five people were brought to the hospital.” “Fifty-five people remain in the hospital, and we hope to discharge the majority of them soon,” NHSL sources said yesterday.

One patient is still in critical condition, according to NHSL sources.

Last Saturday, hundreds of thousands of people descended on the “GotaGoGama” protest site at Galle Face Green, where they eventually took over the Presidential Secretariat, the President’s official residence, and Temple Trees, the Prime Minister’s official residence. The three buildings are still occupied, with key protesters stating that they will remain so until President Gotabaya Rajapaksa officially resigns, which Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena has stated will happen on Wednesday (13).

Prior to the occupation, armed forces were seen shooting at protestors in front of the President’s residence, as well as firing several rounds of tear gas at Chatham Street, resulting in multiple injuries. A severely injured head can be seen in video footage of one protestor being rushed to medical aid.

Yesterday’s questions to Military Spokesperson Brig. Nilantha Premaratne about whether these shots were live ammunition and whether investigations would be conducted into why some video footage shows armed individuals shooting at protestors rather than into the air proved futile.

Later in the day, protestors were tear-gassed again outside Premier Ranil Wickremesinghe’s private residence on Fifth Lane, and journalists were also assaulted by Special Task Forces (STF).
