More than 90% of the small and medium-scale animal farms across the island have been closed due to transport difficulties and increase in the price of animal feed.
Ravindra Jagoda, the convener of Ruhunu Country Farmers’ Organization Union, said that a bag of chicken food, which used to cost 3200 rupees in the past, has now exceeded to 13,000 rupees.
