A private jet has just landed in Male, the capital of the Maldives, and President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is about to depart the island nation for Singapore.
Due to security concerns, Rajapaksa, his wife Ioma Rajapaksa, and two security officials were unable to board a Singapore Airlines flight from Male to Singapore last night.
Rajapaksa then requested a private jet to depart the Maldives, and Maldives authorities began discussions late at night.
The jet has landed at Velana International Airport and Gotabaya Rajapaksa will soon depart the Maldives.
It is anticipated that the President will announce his resignation once he arrives in Singapore later today.
