A protester was arrested by police with stolen tear gas cartridges.

A person was arrested for possessing tear gas belonging to the police during last week’s demonstration near the Parliament.

During Wednesday’s (13) demonstration near Polduwa Junction in Battaramulla, a group of police officers reportedly transported fifty tear gas canisters on a three-wheeler.

According to reports, anti-government protesters assaulted three police officers who were transporting tear gas canisters and attempted to seize the tear gas supply.

Yesterday (17), a 31-year-old suspect was arrested in Obyssekarapura on Nanayakkara Mawatha following an incident for which the police had launched an investigation.

Following interrogation, the man revealed that fifty tear gas canisters were concealed in his Borella, Gothami Road, boarding house.

The suspect, a 31-year-old Pollonaruwa resident, will be brought before the courts today, while the Welikada Police conducts additional investigations.
