A total of 50 trains operated yesterday. Only 50 out of 280 trains were operated yesterday at the Fort Railway station as a result railway workers not turning up for duties owing to severe fuel crisis, the Sri Lanka Railways Station Masters’ Union (SLRSMU) said.

They claimed that because the trains that were supposed to come on time failed to do so, there was tension in numerous railway stations.

Additionally, tensions rose at the Panadura railway station where irate travelers broke into a riot and tried to harm the railroad’s property. The police were able to control the situation.

The Transport Minister, Ministry Secretary, Railways General Manager, Railways Sub Department Executives and a number of union activists did, however, have a discussion.

The Ministry Secretary promised to develop a plan to give fuel to the railroad personnel.

The Unions also pledged to help efforts to stabilize the situation to the fullest extent possible.
