Additional funds required for next fuel shipment

Published:

Additional funds required for next fuel shipment. The fuel shipment that is expected to arrive in Sri Lanka on July 13 requires payment of an extra sum, according to Kanchana Wijesekara, Minister of Power & Energy.

He claimed earlier during a session of Parliament that the Committee appointed by Cabinet of Ministers had given its approval for the importation of the necessary quantities of fuel by July 13.

He added that the main issue is that the supplier has quoted a price that is higher than the standard rates, adding that if this fuel shipment is not secured, the public will only begin receiving fuel after July 22.

He claims that the next supply of fuel, which the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation receives from the Indian Oil Corporation, is scheduled to arrive on the island between July 22 and 23.

Minister Wijesekara continued by stating that the Government hoped to receive the shipment by July 15 and that the advance payment for this company will be made during the day.
