Alert from All Ceylon Bakery Owners’ Association. With the current crisis and precarious economic situation, All Ceylon Bakery Owners’ Association (ACBOA) President N.K. Jayawardena predicts that bakery production, including bread, will cease in the next two or three days.
He stated that this was due to the ongoing fuel crisis, as well as the scarcity and price increase of all ingredients.
Currently, half of the bakery’s production has ceased. The remainder will also come to a halt very soon.
The Association has informed the Minister of Power and Energy about the fuel crisis. However, the minister has yet to respond.
Bakery production is also classified as an essential service but nothing has been done to save the bakery industry so far.
