Decisions made at an important meeting of party leaders are revealed by the speaker.

The choices made at the meeting between the Party Leaders on Monday, November 11, have been made public by the Speaker of Sri Lanka’s Parliament.

According to him, the meeting’s purpose was to deliberate what actions should be taken when President Gotabaya Rajapaksa resigned on Wednesday, July 13. Rajapaksa had previously told the speaker that he would leave the office that day.

In light of this, the Party Leaders highlighted the necessity of acting quickly in accordance with the Presidential Elections (Special Provisions) Act (No. 2 of 1981).

Since the act requires it, Parliament will meet on July 15 and be informed of the empty Presidency.

Following that, on July 19 nominations will be requested, and on July 20, in accordance with the applicable legal conditions, a vote will be requested to choose the new President.

After then, the next president will create an all-party coalition that ought to make it possible for constitutional protections and fundamental services to continue.

The Prime Minister and the whole Cabinet are prepared to resign if an all-party government is established tomorrow, according to Chief Government Whip Prasanna Ranatunga.

All-Party Leaders have been contacted by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena to support these initiatives.
