Former President to return to Sri Lanka. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the former President, is anticipated to return to Sri Lanka again, according to Cabinet spokesman Minister Bandula Gunawardena.

The former President is not hiding in Singapore, the Minister stated during the post-cabinet media briefing. The former President also did not seek asylum as some stories stated; rather, he went to Singapore after receiving an official visa.

When asked about a complaint submitted to Singapore’s Attorney General on Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s arrest and rumors of his return to Sri Lanka in August, the minister made the remarks.

The former President will return to the country, the Minister said, adding that if there are any changes, the former President will be informed by the appropriate authorities.

On the political front, he continued, the Government has not been informed of the former President’s travel arrangements or any precise return dates.
