Today, a school bus was swept away as it tried to cross a flooded road in Uttarakhand.
The incident happened in Tanakpur, which is in the district of Champawat. Shocked people saw the bus being flipped over by floodwaters.
An official said that there were no students on the bus and that the driver and conductor got off the bus safely.
“This morning, a flood took away a school bus. The driver seems to be at fault, since the water flow wasn’t strong enough to wash the bus away “Himanshu Kafaltia, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Tanakpur said.
The Rishikesh-Kedarnath highway, as well as several other highways and 89 rural roads in the state, were blocked by landslides, according to the PTI news service.
Most of Uttarakhand’s districts got rain today, and tomorrow should be the same, according to the weather service. In some parts of the districts of Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital, Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar, and Haridwar, heavy to very heavy rain is expected in a few spots.
News agency ANI says that there was a cloudburst today in the nearby state of Himachal Pradesh, which caused several small water canals to collapse.
The cloud burst happened in the village of Shalkhar. The District Emergency Operations Centre said that some cars were buried and some homes were damaged.
