The Colombo Crimes Division has been tasked with investigating the theft of the firearm and two magazines belonging to the soldier who was injured during the protest at the Polduwa intersection yesterday (13). (CCD).
During the demonstration, the soldier who was attacked had his firearm and two magazines containing sixty rounds of ammunition stolen.
The investigation was assigned to the Colombo Crimes Division, Police Media Spokesman, Attorney-at-Law SSP Nihal Thalduwa, on the advice of Deshbandu Thennakoon, the Senior Deputy Inspector General (SDIG) of Police in charge of Western Province.
During yesterday’s protest at Polduwa Junction, a Wellawaya military base-affiliated soldier was attacked with an iron rod and his firearm was stolen.
The severely injured soldier is currently undergoing treatment at the army hospital.
A special police team from the Colombo Crimes Division visited the military hospital and interviewed the injured soldier about the incident.
