Lawyers from the International Truth and Justice Project (ITJP) have asked the Attorney General of Singapore to arrest former Sri Lankan President Nandasena Gotabaya Rajapaksa right away for committing war crimes.

The 63-page complaint says that Rajapaksa broke the Geneva Conventions in serious ways during the civil war in 2009 when he was secretary of defense and that these crimes can be prosecuted in Singapore because Singapore has “universal jurisdiction.”

In the legal complaint, it is said that Gotabaya Rajapaksa broke the Geneva Conventions, international humanitarian law, and international criminal law during the Sri Lankan civil war. These include killing, being put to death, being tortured or treated badly, rape and other forms of sexual violence, being locked up, getting hurt badly physically or mentally, and going hungry.
