Kodak Black, whose real name is Bill Kahan Kapri, was arrested in Florida on Friday following a traffic stop.

Variety reports that the Florida Highway Patrol flagged the rapper’s vehicle for having tinted windows “that appeared to be darker than the legal limit,” according to a release obtained by CNN.

Authorities discovered upon stopping Kapri that the vehicle’s registration had expired.

Upon further investigation, Variety reports that a small bag containing 31 white oxycodone tablets, an opioid drug, and $75,000 in cash was discovered.

Consequently, Kapri was arrested; according to online police records, the rapper was detained on Friday for “possession of a controlled substance without a prescription.”

“Never judge a case based on an arrest,” Bradford Cohen, Kapri’s attorney, said in a statement.

“There are facts and circumstances in this case that give rise to a defense. We have negotiated a 75,000-dollar bond and will move swiftly to resolve the situation.

The Florida Highway Patrol was unavailable for comment immediately.

Kapri, a native Floridian, was sentenced to three years in prison in November 2019 after pleading guilty to using false statements to illegally acquire firearms from a gun shop in the Miami area.

In the final days of his presidency, former US President Donald J. Trump commuted his sentence in January 2021. His administration at the White House referred to Kapri as “a prominent artist and community leader.”

Prior to the weapons charge, a South Carolina grand jury indicted Kapri in 2017 for first-degree criminal sexual conduct.

This year, Kodak Black’s album “Back for Everything” debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart.

It marked his fifth album in the top five of the chart. In February, Kapri was hospitalized after being shot outside a Los Angeles nightclub.
