The Player Draft for the 3rd Edition of the Lanka Premier League 2022, Sri Lanka’s top domestic T20 League, is set for July 5th, 2022.
The upcoming ‘Draft,’ which will be held virtually at 5 p.m., will feature 353 players, including 180 overseas and 173 Sri Lankan players (First Class, Internationals, and Ex-Internationals), with the participation of the LPL Governance Committee and Franchise Owners ( Management and Coaches).
The draft will be divided into 20 rounds, with each round covering a different player category, such as “International Ruby,’ ‘International Sapphire,’ ‘International Diamond ‘A,’ ‘B,’ and International Platinum.
While a Sri Lanka ‘Gold Round’ will focus on selecting Sri Lanka’s young talent, below U23, with two players per team.
A squad of 20 players will be assembled, with 14 Sri Lankans and six internationals.
If necessary, a team can retain 06 players from the previous year’s squad, consisting of 04 Sri Lankans and 02 Overseas.
Franchisees can also Direct Sign (Pre-Draft) two Sri Lankans and two internationals, while the remaining players must be chosen from the upcoming ‘Player Draft.’
The tournament will begin on July 31, 2022, and will be held at the RPICS in Colombo and the MRICS in Hambantota.
