Navy captures KG valued at Rs. 63 million

This morning (July 6, 2022) in Norochcholai, Puttalam, the Navy carried out a special operation that resulted in the capture of about 212 kg of Kerala cannabis being transported by a van. In the course of this operation, the Navy also detained a suspect connected to this enterprise.

As a result, this morning at the Karamba, Norochcholai roadblock, SLNS Thambapanni of the Northwestern Naval Command, with the aid of Norochcholai Police, searched a suspicious van. While being transported by the van, the raiding group was able to seize approximately 212kg of Kerala cannabis in 97 bundles and 10 sacks during the search. Additionally detained at this facility was a suspect connected to the conspiracy and the drug-smuggling van.

It is estimated that the Keralan cannabis confiscated in this operation has a gross street worth of more than Rs. 63 million.

A 32-year-old Colombo 14 resident was named as the arrested suspect. The suspect was given to the Norochcholai Police for additional legal processes, along with the cannabis from Kerala that had been recovered and the van.
