Party should back Dullas, according to the SLPP Chairman. According to the Chairman of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), Prof. G.L. Peiris, the Party’s nominee should receive support rather than an outsider, as the SLPP has nominated a candidate to run for President.
Lankadeepa quoted him as saying further that the candidate from the SLPP has a chance of winning because the party has the most MPs in the Parliament.
G.L. Peiris continued by noting that MP Dullas Alahapperuma, a highly qualified candidate, has already declared his intention to run for president on April 20.
He came to the conclusion that the SLPP as a whole had not made a decision to endorse any other Presidential candidate.
