The All Ceylon Bakery Owners’ Association (ACBOA) has decided to increase bakery products starting tonight, including a 450g loaf of bread.
ACBOA President N.K. Jayawardena stated today that the decision was made due to a Rs.32 increase in wheat flour prices from yesterday.
As a result, the price of a loaf of bread will be increased by a minimum of Rs. 10 and no more than Rs. 30 starting tonight.
A kilo of wheat flour, which was previously priced at Rs.84.50, is now selling for more than Rs.300 in the local market.
“The rupee value against the dollar does not exceed Rs.400, but the flour price has increased to Rs.300 in the local market and thereby the price of wheat flour has gone up by 400%,” he said.
