Ranil is chosen as Sri Lanka’s eighth Executive President. Ranil Wickremesinghe, the current Acting President and Prime Minister, has been chosen to serve as Sri Lanka’s eighth Executive President.
After receiving 134 votes in today’s secret vote in Parliament, he was declared the winner.
Ranil Wickremesinghe won the election to be the new President by defeating MPs Dullas Alahapperuma and Anura Kuma Dissanayake.
A secret ballot was conducted in Parliament today to choose a new President to serve out the remainder of the old President’s term, in accordance with Sri Lankan Law.
2 MPs did not participate in the voting process, making 223 MPs who did. 4 votes were found to be invalid, leaving 219 valid votes.
Ranil Wickremesinghe, who had previously lost two presidential elections and even his MP seat, was so chosen today to serve as Sri Lanka’s eighth Executive President.
